TEI P5 (tei_all)
Texts encoded with the Text Encoding Initiative guidelines, the standard of digital humanities.
About
TEI is used to encode manuscripts, letters, editions, dictionaries and corpora. tei_all is the schema with every TEI module switched on.
Good to know
- tei_all is a 1 MB grammar: preparing it takes a few seconds before the document is read.
- Projects usually validate against their own customisation (an ODD), which is narrower than tei_all. A document valid here may still break a project's rules.
- The Schematron constraints that TEI embeds in the schema are not run here; only the RelaxNG grammar is checked.
- The example is by xmlvalid.com.

In CI and from code
The same schema by its name, tei-p5, through the API.
npx @xmlvalid/cli validate "**/*.xml" --schema tei-p5
- uses: xmlvalid/validate-action@v1
with:
files: "**/*.xml"
schema: tei-p5
api-key: ${{ secrets.XMLVALID_API_KEY }}
curl https://xmlvalid.com/api/v1/validations \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $XMLVALID_API_KEY" \
-F document={{ $schema->example ?? 'document.xml' }} -F schema=tei-p5
Free accounts get 100 API validations a month. On Pro, a URL monitor can check a published document against this schema every hour and email you when it breaks. More CI setups
