eInvoicing in Australia in short
Australia and New Zealand adopted Peppol together in 2019. The Australian Taxation Office is the Australian Peppol Authority: it accredits Peppol service providers and sets the Australian requirements, such as the A-NZ invoice specification, which supports GST so that an e-invoice can be a valid tax invoice. The ATO does not receive a copy of the invoices.
There is no e-invoicing mandate for businesses. Since 2022 non-corporate Commonwealth entities must be able to receive e-invoices, and the government is making e-invoicing the default in its procurement: these entities work with suppliers so that e-invoices reach 30% of the invoices they receive by 1 July 2026, and enable automated processing and sending by December 2026. Many state and territory agencies and more than 30 local councils receive e-invoices too.
How to check a PINT A-NZ invoice
- Open the validator with the PINT A-NZ invoice profile, or the credit note one. A UBL file with the PINT A-NZ identifier picks the right one by itself.
- Paste the UBL or drop the file, then press Validate.
- Click a rule id for what it checks.
What is checked
The UBL 2.1 schema, then OpenPeppol's PINT A-NZ 1.1.3 artefacts as published: the PINT Billing rules and the A-NZ rules, such as the seller's ABN for a seller in Australia (aligned-ibr-001-aunz) or NZBN in New Zealand (aligned-ibr-002-aunz) and the GST breakdown (aligned-ibrp-s-08-aunz). We compared our results with Saxon for Java on OpenPeppol's PINT examples and altered copies of them: every rule was the same.
Your access point validates the invoice too and may check more, such as whether the ABN is registered, which is not done here. Self-billing documents use their own identifier and rules, which are not offered here yet.

Questions
Is the invoice uploaded?
No. The schema check and the rules both run in your browser. Only the API and URL monitors validate on our servers.
Does it work for New Zealand invoices?
Yes. PINT A-NZ is one specification for both countries; the rules that differ, such as the NZBN, depend on the seller's and buyer's country in the invoice.
Can I check invoices from code?
Yes: the API and the command-line client with --schema pint-aunz-invoice, or --schema auto for a folder of mixed invoices.
