JATS 1.3

Journal Publishing Tag Set 1.3 (with MathML 3)

Journal articles in JATS, the format PubMed Central, Crossref workflows and most scholarly publishers use.

About

JATS (ANSI/NISO Z39.96) tags the front matter, body and back matter of journal articles. This is the Journal Publishing ("blue") tag set, which PubMed Central accepts, in its MathML 3 variant.

Good to know

  • PubMed Central runs its own style checker on top of the DTD; its rules are not applied here.
  • Character entities from the DTD are only known when the DTD is read while parsing; use character references for them.
  • The example is by xmlvalid.com.

The validator loads all of these with their folder structure, so includes and imports resolve as published.
