Atom Syndication Format
Blog, podcast and changelog feeds in the Atom format, as read by feed readers and aggregators.
About
Atom is the IETF standard for web feeds (RFC 4287). Its schema is published in the RFC itself, in the RelaxNG compact syntax; xmlvalid.com translates it to the XML syntax before validating.
Good to know
- The schema is informative: the RFC text is normative. Two rules are written in Schematron and not applied: a feed needs an author unless every entry has one, and an entry needs an alternate link or content.
- Extension elements in other namespaces are accepted without being checked.
Example document
feed.atom · 1.6 KB · valid against this schema
In CI and from code
The same schema by its name, atom-1.0, through the API.
npx @xmlvalid/cli validate "**/*.xml" --schema atom-1.0
- uses: xmlvalid/validate-action@v1
with:
files: "**/*.xml"
schema: atom-1.0
api-key: ${{ secrets.XMLVALID_API_KEY }}
curl https://xmlvalid.com/api/v1/validations \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $XMLVALID_API_KEY" \
-F document={{ $schema->example ?? 'document.xml' }} -F schema=atom-1.0
Free accounts get 100 API validations a month. On Pro, a URL monitor can check a published document against this schema every hour and email you when it breaks. More CI setups
