> Check a Japanese Peppol invoice against the JP PINT rules: the UBL 2.1 schema, the PINT Billing rules and the Japanese rules, with every finding on its line. Nothing is uploaded.

## JP PINT in short

Since 1 October 2023, a buyer in Japan deducts consumption tax on purchases under the qualified invoice system (インボイス制度): the seller registers with the National Tax Agency and issues qualified invoices with its registration number.

The Digital Agency, Japan's Peppol Authority, maintains JP PINT, the Japanese specialization of Peppol International, prepared so that a Peppol e-invoice can carry what a qualified invoice must state. E-invoicing is not mandatory in Japan: using JP PINT, or sending and receiving electronic invoices at all, is the parties' choice. Exchanging the data alone also does not meet the conditions for the purchase tax credit; the data has to be stored as the law requires.

## How to check a JP PINT invoice

1. Open the [validator with the JP PINT invoice profile](https://xmlvalid.com/validate?schema=pint-jp-invoice). A UBL file with the JP PINT identifier picks it by itself.
2. Paste the UBL or drop the file, then press **Validate**.
3. Click a rule id for what it checks.

## What is checked

The UBL 2.1 schema, then OpenPeppol's PINT JP 1.1.3 artefacts as published: the PINT Billing rules and the Japanese rules, such as the seller's Registration Number for Qualified Invoice ([aligned-ibr-jp-01](https://xmlvalid.com/rules/aligned-ibr-jp-01)), the consumption tax per rate ([aligned-ibrp-051-jp](https://xmlvalid.com/rules/aligned-ibrp-051-jp)) and tax amounts in yen without decimals ([aligned-ibr-jp-06](https://xmlvalid.com/rules/aligned-ibr-jp-06)). We compared our results with Saxon for Java on OpenPeppol's PINT examples and altered copies of them: every rule was the same.

JP PINT allows document type 380 only ([aligned-ibrp-cl-02-jp](https://xmlvalid.com/rules/aligned-ibrp-cl-02-jp)), so there is no credit note profile. The Digital Agency's other specifications (self-billing, invoices from businesses not registered for tax) are not offered here yet.

Each one has a page with what it checks, its test and, for many, how to fix it.

## Questions

### Is the invoice uploaded?

No. The schema check and the rules both run in your browser. Only the API and URL monitors validate on our servers.

### Does a valid result mean the invoice is a qualified invoice?

It means it passes the schema and the JP PINT rules. Whether it qualifies for the purchase tax credit also depends on the seller's registration and on how the data is stored, which this check does not look at.

### Can I check invoices from code?

Yes: the API and the command-line client with --schema pint-jp-invoice, or --schema auto for a folder of mixed invoices.
