# xmlvalid vs the ecosio validator

Source: https://xmlvalid.com/compare/ecosio

> Both check an e-invoice for free against its schema and the official Schematron business rules. ecosio's validator is a web form in front of its e-invoicing network; xmlvalid runs the check in your browser and adds an API, CI tools and a page for every rule. Here is where each one fits.

## Where xmlvalid fits better

- The invoice stays on your machine. The schema check and the business rules run in your browser, so an invoice with customer and bank details is never uploaded.
- Countries ecosio does not list: [Croatia](https://xmlvalid.com/e-invoicing/croatia) (Fiskalizacija 2.0), [Poland](https://xmlvalid.com/e-invoicing/poland) (KSeF), [the UAE](https://xmlvalid.com/e-invoicing/uae) (PINT AE), Mexico (CFDI) and Brazil (NF-e), next to the national rules both offer, such as [the Netherlands](https://xmlvalid.com/e-invoicing/netherlands), [Denmark](https://xmlvalid.com/e-invoicing/denmark), [Norway](https://xmlvalid.com/e-invoicing/norway), [Portugal](https://xmlvalid.com/e-invoicing/portugal) and [Saudi Arabia](https://xmlvalid.com/e-invoicing/saudi-arabia).
- More ways in: paste, a URL, a whole folder or a .zip of up to 1,000 invoices, or the PDF that carries the XML, up to 1 GB.
- Your own schemas and rules next to the catalog: an XSD set with its includes, or a Schematron file of your own.
- Every finding links somewhere: the [6,972 business rules](https://xmlvalid.com/rules) each have a page with their test and, for the common ones, how to fix them.
- Automation without a sales call: [a REST API](https://xmlvalid.com/docs/api), [a command-line client and a GitHub Action](https://xmlvalid.com/docs/ci), [SDKs](https://xmlvalid.com/docs/sdks), with [prices on the page](https://xmlvalid.com/pricing).
- A result names the rule releases it was checked against, and the XRechnung and Peppol findings are compared every week with the KoSIT validator and Saxon.

## Where ecosio fits better

- [Finland](https://xmlvalid.com/e-invoicing/finland): xmlvalid checks Finvoice against the schema and its own amount and payment rules, written from Finance Finland's guidelines. The Finvoice Schematron of the Finnish e-invoicing forum is sold under licence and not part of xmlvalid.
- Sending, not only checking: ecosio is an e-invoicing and Peppol network. xmlvalid validates documents; it doesn't deliver them.
- Someone to fix your file with you, if you are an ecosio customer.

## Questions

### Do both find the same errors?

For the same rule set at the same release, yes: both run the publisher's Schematron. Differences come from different releases (xmlvalid names its own on every result) and from checks one of them adds, such as the PDF/A layer of a Factur-X PDF.

### Can xmlvalid send my invoice over Peppol?

No. xmlvalid only validates. To send and receive invoices you need a Peppol access point or an e-invoicing provider such as ecosio.

### Is xmlvalid free like ecosio's validator?

Yes, in the browser, for files up to 1 GB with a free account (50 MB without one). The API includes 100 validations a month on Free; Pro adds 10,000 to 100,000.

### Which one should I use for XRechnung?

Either checks the XRechnung rules. Use xmlvalid when the invoice may not leave your machine, when you check many at once or from CI, or when you want the rule's explanation next to the error.

## How we compared

What the table says about ecosio comes from its own public pages, as they read on 19 October 2026; "Not stated" means we found no answer there. Products change: if something here is out of date, [tell us](https://xmlvalid.com/contacts) and we will correct it.
